Frequently Asked Questions
These details are intended for military personnel, veterans, and first responders exploring the equine-led EMDR treatments offered by Equines for Freedom.
What defines Equine EMDR?
This method combines horse-based interactions with Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, creating a powerful framework to help participants navigate trauma and PTSD.
Is there a fee for treatment?
Because of our dedicated community of supporters, we are able to offer our distinctive therapeutic programs at no expense to qualifying service members and responders.
Are the equine interactions safe?
Absolutely. Each meeting is led by a dual-professional team—a clinician and an equine expert—utilizing horses specifically chosen for their calm and gentle nature.
Is previous riding skill required?
No history with horses is needed. All activities take place on the ground, and our specialists will be by your side to help you feel confident and comfortable.
What distinguishes your healing approach?
Our program uses an outdoor arena environment to encourage staying in the moment. We are the unique provider currently offering this horse-led EMDR without fees.
Must I recount my history in detail?
Sharing specific traumatic memories is not a requirement for EA-EMDR. The therapy prioritizes the processing of emotions in the present to foster genuine recovery.
Who can access these services?
We provide free care to active duty and former US military members. Expansion to more categories of first responders is planned as more funding becomes available.
What is the duration of the program?
Individual sessions range from an hour to ninety minutes. The total path to healing is personalized and depends on your specific milestones and needs.
How can I apply or send a referral?
Please reach out via email at eff@equinesforfreedom.org or dial (570) 319-9684 to organize your first intake conversation with our professional team.
Are relatives allowed in sessions?
This therapeutic model focuses on individual healing for veterans and responders. Feel free to contact us to discuss alternative support options for your family.
Does the therapy involve riding?
No. Every session takes place on the ground alongside a therapist and an equine specialist. Riding is not a component of our specific therapy sessions.
Which groups receive your support?
We provide free care to active duty and former US military members. Expansion to more categories of first responders is planned as more funding becomes available.
